| The
seat is constructed with an internal molded plastic honeycomb frame and
covered with marine-grade vinyl. The seat back is attached with
heavy-duty aluminum struts and hinges. The seat back folds down for
storage. The Helmseat base is formed from marine-grade King Starboard® solid polyethylene, which is impervious to saltwater and continuous direct sunlight. Legs are made of polished 1-inch 304
stainless steel tubing, and are removable Rail clamps are nylon, with stainless
steel hardware. These clamps are designed All fasteners are stainless steel except the seat hinges and struts, which are aluminum. No components should degrade with constant exposure to sunlight and salt spray. (An occasional fresh-water rinse helps metal parts.) A new all-stainless-steel footrest is now
available (Mar 5, 2003). A new Captain's Grog Holder is also
available (April, 2003). |

Helmseats
for other model Catalinas Older model Catalinas with a single backstay attached amidships in the stern (rather than a split backstay) will usually not accept a Helmseat. Models with a "walk-through transom" are the best application for a Helmseat. We now ship alternate long legs to many customers who prefer to sail without the removable factory fiberglass cockpit seat in the walk-through portion of the stern. |
